![]() Definitely want to go back to check out the lunch or dinner train as it sounds like fun. Once back at the station we checked out the gift shop and model trains in the one building and headed out. Both boat and train had narrations which were nice and well informed. Once back at the train it was about a 20 minute ride back to Essex Station. There is a snack bar with alcoholic drinks available on the bottom deck if you are interested but we didn't try anything. There is minimal seating but the view was worth it. Once we left the top deck was open for up to 40 people at a time to wander and check out the scenery. The bottom and middle decks have chairs and everyone needs to be in one when leaving/arriving at the dock. We asked and were told the boat holds over 200 people over three decks so everyone fit. It was deceiving as there were hundreds of people but the boat looked small. We arrived at the riverboat as it was coming back from a previous ride and we waited about 10 minutes to board. Ideally, sit on the platform side of the train if you want to see the most scenery but if the space permits sit on the opposite side on the way back. The ride left on time, went about 5 miles up the line passing some nice scenery along the Connecticut River. It looked so nice and we all agreed to try that the next time. We chose coach class but peaked into the first class car which were swivel chairs. The train was not full which was perfect as we had the pick of the seats in any number of cars. We arrived in Essex about 12pm and picked up our tickets just in time to see our train pull into the station. We decided to book and took the 12:30pm Friday afternoon fall foliage train and riverboat ride. ![]() I hugged her after that answer.Traveled from PA on a day trip (about 3 hours away) to see some fall leaves and found this online. When I asked Pam the question "What do you expect from us as far as clean up?", she responded "Have a wonderful time, then take your personal belongings and go rest.". Most of the venues we visited prior to meeting Pam, had told us that our clean up of the venue would begin immediately after the reception and we would have to have the venue returned to original condition before an early time the next morning. The Essex Steam Train & Riverboat has announced the dates and started to sell tickets for its 2022 edition of the North Pole Express on its website. That made all the difference to us and brought us to tears. Her first question to my beautiful daughter wasn't "How much are you looking to spend?" but "What does your dream day look like?". She is kind, welcoming and very professional. What really sold us on the Essex Steam Train facility was the Coordinator Pam Amodio. The Essex Steam Train River Valley Junction Hall and Oliver Jensen Gallery is the only venue that we visited that could COMFORTABLY accommodate my daughter's 125+ guest and still have room for a dance floor andīar/hors d' oeuvres area. When we arrived, the wedding coordinator explained that they based that on the fact that most of your guests would be "hanging outside". We looked at one option who said (prior to our visit) that they could seat 125 guests. Most of the venues we looked at were overpriced for the space available or had advertised themselves as being able to accommodate a lot more guests than they could comfortably fit. This venue was our last appointment on a VERY long weekend looking at venue options across Connecticut. My daughter and her Fiancé will be married here in September of this year.
