![]() Who ever got 5 the closest would win the shoot off. Would put up big money on the wall above where we were shooting.like 30 yds and shoot 5 arrows at a quarter size red dot. Use to travel to Charlotte on buying trips and an archery shop up there at night would have guys shooting for money in the back. Went to the Deer Classic in Raleigh in like '96 and my son was in a line of people waiting to get up to the Matthews booth.well, he finally looked me up and said Dad, don't get in that line because if you put your hands on that Matthews bow you going to drop $400+.well, I bought one a few days later.a Z-Light and won many shoot offs with it. Started with a Bear Whitetail and killed a bunch of deer with that setup. The butcher thought I shot it with a gun! I was never afraid of a quarter to me shot! Those were the good ol days for me, shooting fingers and no sights! Boy I was deadly, but only 35yds and under!Īs others said, overdraws were the big thing! I was blowing through deer no problem with a 125gr broadhead! I remember a big mature doe I shot through both shoulders blades at 20yds. My dad and brothers were both shooting higher weights and those arrows really zipped. I needed this since I was only shooting 58lbs and not the heavier popular weights. They were fluted arrows that gave less weight, and shot faster. Bought a Golden Eagle II my second year and killed my first with those Excalibur arrows. I had some penetration issues on those big PA deer and lost a monster my first year. I started out in 90’ with a hand me down darton at 50lb and Easton 1918.
